The Third International Conference on Metallic Materials and Processing (3rd ICMMP), hosted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), was held from 4 to 7 Dec 2016 on campus.
Metallic materials and its processing is still a critical and hot topic in materials development and processing arena in spite of the advent of many new materials. Metallic materials are widely used as structural materials in many industrial clusters and there are still many tantalized issues to be addressed in terms of their development and processing, especially for some crucial application scenarios. Currently, a lot of efforts are still provided into this traditional materials arena to revitalize the research and development of metallic materials and processing. The conference served as a platform for exchanging new ideas, sharing new achievements, facilitating brainstorming, and promoting collaboration in metallic materials and processing arena.
This conference on metallic materials and processing has been co-organized by four academic institutions including from the Northwestern Polytechnical University (China), University of Queensland (Australia), University of North Texas (USA), and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong SAR). The first conference was successfully held in the amazing city of Gold Coast in Australia in 2012, and followed by the second one in the wonderful entertainment city of Las Vegas in USA in 2014. This is the third conference held in Hong Kong.
In the 3rd ICMMP, Prof H.C. Man, Chair Processor and Dean of Engineering, gave the opening address and welcome speech. Four distinguished experts were invited to give plenary talks on the state-of-the-art of metallic materials and 3D printing technology. 62 shortlisted talks are split into two parallel sessions for their presentation. In addition, distinguished professors and researchers attended this conference for an in-depth brainstorming and discussion on some eluded issues and advances in metallic materials development and processing. The conference aims to bring out more collaborations, synergies and cooperation among the conference delegates and their institutions.
