Dr. Jiao received his BSc from China University of Geosciences Beijing in 2007, and MEng from University of Science and Technology Beijing in 2010, both in Materials Science and Engineering. He obtained his PhD degree in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering from City University of Hong Kong in 2014, under the supervision of Prof. C.T. Liu, and subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the same group. Before joining the department in 2017, he worked as a Visiting Scholar in Prof. Christopher A. Schuh’s group at MIT for one year.
His research interests focus on the development of advanced structural materials, including ultra-high strength nanostructured steels, high-temperature and high-strength Ti alloys, nanocrystalline alloys, bulk metallic glasses and high-entropy alloys. In particular, he is interested in understanding the processing-structure-property relationships in structural materials using electronic microscopies, 3D atom probe tomography, and simulations. He has filed 3 patents and authored more than 20 papers in technical journals. He also serves as a reviewer for a number of journals, including Acta Materialia, Scientific Reports, Materials Characterization, and Intermetallics (2014 Outstanding reviewer).
